There is a popular country music song that talks about finding
out who your true friends are. It includes the following lyrics: “And everybody wants to slap your back, wants
to shake your hand, when you’re up on top of that mountain. But then one of
those rocks give way then you slide back down look up and see who’s around then.”
It’s easy to be a friend to another when they are successful, popular, and doing
well in life. But what about when they are at their worst…what about when they
are unsuccessful, dirty, and destroyed? What about when they have done
something terrible and sit at the bottom of the barrel, unable to climb out of
the mess they made for themselves? Are we still standing at their side,
offering a helping hand, lending a dollar, providing a meal? God is…God is
always willing to pick us up, dust us off, and help us on our way…no matter
what kind of mess we have put ourselves in. As long as we are still breathing
on this earth, we have God willing to extend his hand of love, grace, and mercy.
It’s an incredible and undeserving gift, purchased with the blood of One…the One
true Savior of the World. May we mirror this same unconditional and extraordinary
love and forgiveness in our own lives…so that when another looks up at us, they
see a friend in good times and bad…in the thick and the thin…shining the light
of Christ! To God be the glory!
