Daily Verse: Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

There are probably only a few moments in our lives when we could say that our hearts actually leapt for joy. Perhaps these were moments at Christmas when we were kids and that certain present was unwrapped. Or maybe it was when a child was born, a groom viewed his bride walking down the aisle, or an old friend or family member is embraced after a long time apart. It’s a moment when we are so consumed with the joy right before us that everything else in the world seems to fade away. The only thing that matters is what is before us…the thing that is generating such an incredible moment of happiness that it feels like our heart is literally jumping in our chest. So how can we experience what David did in the text above? How can we be so consumed with the glory of the Lord that the joy absolutely overflows in our hearts and minds? Perhaps it starts with making God a part of our everyday…making time to study his Word, speak to him in prayer, listen to songs that give him praise, and simply reflect on his greatness, blocking out all distractions and allowing all our attention to rest upon him. And then when the Holy Spirit filters into our lives…when we eagerly welcome his company…when we grow to yearn for those moments when we truly feel his presence, perhaps we will feel a glimpse of what David experienced…and perhaps our hearts will then leap for joy in the presence of the Lord. I have to think that is what we will experience when we take that first step into heaven, seeing the Savior face to face. Oh how we eagerly await that incredible day! To God be the glory!
