She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins
The Sidewalk Prophets sing a song titled “Hope Is Born this Night”…and for some reason, this song snagged my attention, causing me to take pause on what the birth of Christ actually brought into this world. And to me, it can be summed with one word…Hope. Before Christ was born, there was little hope for God’s people…for they failed miserably at following His commands. Things were messed up…Sin simply had too powerful a grip on their lives…and God understood this. So he sent his Son into the world…as an infant child born in the most humble of places…among animals in a stable. And with the birth of this infant, the wheels were put into motion for the salvation of man. God was with man, in the form of a child…and one day, this child that grew into a man would pay the price for the sin of man…suffering a great death on the cross…and rising three days later, defeating sin and death. In Christmas, there is great hope…for the Savior is born…so that all who put their faith in him may no longer be prisoner to sin. So amongst all the holiday activity that consumes us this year, may we take time to pause and reflect on the hope that is given through the birth of this child…hope that sustains us each day, promising a reunion with him in heaven one day. To God be the glory.
