Daily Verse: Romans 7:21

So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.

Remember those classic cartoons where you have the devil sitting on one shoulder and an angel sitting on the other…both are pleading their case for you to choose their path…one for good, one for evil. We have all encountered a situation like this where we know the right thing to do, being tugged in the direction of good while at the same time, keenly aware of the sinful path, and being dragged in the opposite direction. Our God is a living God…and as such, he is alive and active in our lives…pointing us in the direction of righteousness…sometimes the guidance is very subtle, while at other times it is quite blatant…but it is always available (I use the word “available” because we must accept his impact on our lives). While God is there, so is the devil, prowling about our world, working to snag our attention and drag us into sin. Just see Job 1:7, “The LORD said to Satan, ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan answered the LORD, ‘From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.’“  It’s a constant battle…the devil is relentless and crafty…he makes sinful things look attractive, sinful paths look appealing. But the Lord is almighty…with him, nothing is impossible…including stomping out sin and the one that brings that sin into our lives. Sure, this all sounds good…but how exactly do we go about this “stomping”? Through daily prayer and immersion into his Word…soaking up the direction he has for our lives and following where he leads us. The Bible is full of thousands of pieces of wisdom, direction, and solutions that can be applied to whatever life throws our way…it’s like a perfectly crafted owner’s manual for our lives. So today, may we make time to spend with our God, soaking up the wisdom he has for us, and finding peace in knowing that with his finger prints on our lives, we are headed in the right direction.
