Daily for Him - Psalm 46:10 - 11/30/11

Daily Verse: Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

On an almost daily basis we are bombarded with new information about what is good and bad for us in our world. Much of this comes through the Internet, where we can literally access billions of pages of information on just about any subject. In fact, we can get so consumed with new information, new warnings, new guidelines, and new requirements, that we enter a state of confusion, worry, and even panic. Are we doing what is best for our health? Are we taking the best steps in raising our children? Are we saving enough to retire one day? And with each new item to think about, we search for logical data that tells us which path to take. Once we find solid evidence, we are at peace…right? At least until the next piece of “new” info comes across our screen…then we start the cycle all over again. God blessed us with incredible intellectual minds and the ability to make sound decisions in our lives…He gave us the ability to think through situations and find the best alternative…and we are meant to use this blessing, not waste it. But at times, it seems we allow ourselves to over-think and over-analyze to the point that we become consumed with seeking perfection…we become consumed with making sure we have everything “under control”…and we are doing everything in the “best” possible manner. We are not meant to worry (see Matthew 6:25-34) nor are we meant to be in constant pursuit of perfection…as both of these will eventually consume us, negatively controlling our lives. Rather, there are times that we are simply meant to “be still” and know that God is with us. A time where we have used the resources God has provided as intended and we must stop…relying solely on our faith in the Lord…trusting that whatever happens in the next second, minute, hour, or day, our God is with us…and He is providing what is needed…as seen in Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”. So today, as the flood of new “direction” comes across our screen, may we remember to “be still”, taking time to pause in prayer, and trusting that all is ok for those that put their trust in the Lord. For after all, in the end, all that will matter is our salvation in the Lord. To God be the glory!
