Daily for Him - Galatians 5:24 - 11/29/11

Daily Verse: Galatians 5:24

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

In the movie The Passion of the Christ, there is a scene where Christ is being taunted, or tempted, by the devil. At the end of that scene, a snake slithers towards Christ…as if to symbolize the devil trying to get a hold on the Lord. With absolute ferocity, the Lord stomps on the head of the snake, stopping it instantly in its slithery tracks…defeating the sin that attempted to infiltrate Christ’s world. Christ has no tolerance for sin…and this scene of the movie seemed to capture it accurately…and act as foreshadowing for what was to come. When sin entered the world, there was a disconnect between God’s Law and man…and there needed to be payment for this disconnect…someone needed to be punished, someone needed to be held accountable. In steps Christ…for as he died on the cross, he paid the price for the sins that were committed by God’s people…committed by me and you. When we put our faith in the Savior, we are no longer a prisoner to sin…we have “crucified” the sin in our lives…cast it aside, buried it, no longer under its strangling hold. Does that mean that we will not fall into sin down the road? No…for we are incapable of walking a blameless path…but with the blood of Christ, we have redemption. Through repentance, we have salvation…through remorse, we are washed clean. And as a result, we no longer live a life serving the desires of the flesh…rather we passionately live a life serving the Lord. To God be the glory!
