Daily for Him - Psalm 119:18 - 12/01/11

Daily Verse: Psalm 119:18

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

For those that are unfamiliar with Christianity, it can seem daunting and overwhelming. After all, when a person chooses to put their faith in Christ, there is often times a major overhaul that occurs in their everyday lives. They have to change a lot of old ways and embrace new ways…casting aside sin and embracing righteousness. This could be uncomfortable at first…but after really digging into the text, and allowing the Holy Spirit to infiltrate our lives, we come to see that Christianity is about freedom. Freedom from the grips of sin…freedom from greed, freedom from lust, freedom from anger and rage, freedom from want and worry. In God’s Word we find direction…Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your hear and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”…we find shelter in times of difficulty…Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze”…we find contentment…Philippians 4:12, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want”…we find an end to worry…Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This is just a tiny example of the greatness that can be found in God’s Word…the wonderful salvation that can be found when we put our faith in the one true Savior. Faith in Christ unlocks the “handcuffs” that are placed on us by sin…leading us out of confinement and into eternal salvation. So today, may we share this great faith with another so that all may come to know the surpassing greatness of our God. To God be the glory!
