Hebrews 7:25
Therefore he is able
to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives
to intercede for them.
The world we live in today might find us kind of ordinary,
average, and nothing really special. While we each have talents and abilities,
most of us don’t stand out on the world stage…in fact, we probably get lost quite
well in the masses. But take a moment, and in the text above from the book of Hebrews,
replace “those” and “them” with “you” and “you”.
“Therefore he is able to save YOU completely who comes to God through
him, because he always lives to interceded for YOU”.
With that change, we suddenly don’t feel so ordinary,
average, or forgotten. With that change things get a bit personal…Jesus became
man for YOU, Jesus died on the cross for YOU, Jesus rose from the dead for YOU…and
Jesus lives to mediate the relationship between YOU and God. Feel special yet?
Feel like you are cherished, beloved, and valued yet? God’s love for you is so
great that he had to figure out a way to make things right between you and him.
But he didn’t go about it in a manner that might make sense to man…he didn’t
line each of us up and drop the hammer on our heads like we were due. No, he took
an approach that seems to completely defy worldly logic. Instead of punishing
the criminal, he sent his Son to receive the punishment. He sent Jesus…a man
that never committed a single crime, a man that never crossed God or broke a
single commandment…and he took out his wrath on him. By worldly standards, it
makes no since. So why did he do it? Simple…he loves you. His love for you is
so deep that he took these ridiculous measures to ensure that you were protected,
redeemed, and rescued. Feel significant yet? Jesus lives…and he lives with the
purpose of creating peace between us and God…a peace that we are completely
unable of securing on our own. No matter how many good deeds, special prayers, or
church services attended, without Christ, we can do absolutely nothing to make
things right between us and God. But through faith in Christ, we stand before
God washed clean, innocent, and recipients of an incredible promise from God. Because
of Christ, and the love of the Father, one day we will each roll into a place
far more incredible than we can even begin to imagine. So today, take a moment
to rest in this reality…you are deeply, completely, and undeniably loved by the
Father. And when it comes right down to it, that’s all we really need to continue
in each day! To God be all glory!
