Hebrews 10:26-27

Hebrews 10:26-27

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

Through faith in Christ, we are reconciled with God. But don’t mistake that as a reason to think God doesn’t still take sin very seriously. Don’t be fooled into thinking that we can continue status quo, as we were before hearing the Gospel, and that all is still well. No, God calls us to change. God calls us to leave our old, ignorant sinful ways in the past and take on a new life, a life focused on pursuing righteousness and pleasing the Lord. In John 8, Jesus encounter a woman that had been caught in a life of adultery, and he told the woman, “Go now and leave your life of sin.” He didn’t condemn the woman, scold her for her mistakes, or stone her to death like the Pharisees wanted to. But he also didn’t give her a nice pat on the head, a quick smile, and send her on her way to continue life as she had in the past. No, he told her to change…he told her to stop living the sinful life she had been living. There is the key…change…we must change! Through Christ, we have the true picture of righteousness…we know how we are to live…we know what Christ did for each of us…and we know that only through Christ, can we find true peace and salvation. Without him, we are completely and totally doomed. And we shouldn’t kid ourselves…we can’t fool God…we can’t put on a good front and think God “buys into” the façade. He knows our hearts, our minds, our intentions, our every word, and our every action. There is no tricking God. And as indicated in the text above, even after Christ died on the cross to absolve our sins, God still takes sin VERY seriously. Therefore may we strive to live a life that is pleasing to God each and every day. We are still going to slip up at times, but our hearts and minds should be fully committed to serving the Lord…above serving ourselves, our pride, or this world. Yeah, it’s not easy…but through prayer, God sends down the Holy Spirit to give us direction, strength, perseverance, and discipline. May we seek the Lord this day…may we seek the righteous life he desires…and may we find peace in Christ and Christ alone. To God alone be the glory!
