Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all
your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Do we really trust God? I mean do we REALLY deep down, with every
fiber of our being, truly trust that no matter what the circumstances may be,
that God is going to iron it all out in the end? This is a popular verse that
is often quoted, stamped on t-shirts, and quickly referenced when things get a
little difficult. But when the rubber meets the road, do we really put the
issue in the Lord’s hands and follow his direction? It’s probably safe to say
that most of us give lip service to this verse, quoting it and proclaiming that
we trust…but then we spend the bulk of our days fretting, wringing our hands, and
worrying about what might happen. We have difficulty letting go of the reigns
and truly putting the control in God’s hands. We like to think we are in
control, we like to think we can figure it out and effectively manage the issue
with our own two hands. So we stress, toil, and strain and find that we get no
better off than when we began. I believe the verse above is intended to invoke
freedom in our lives. I believe it’s intended to cut us free from worrying and
fretting about tomorrow. I believe it is intended to truly separate us from the
stress of the unknown, and provide us with peace and comfort in knowing that
The Creator has the controls and all is well. Maybe we fail at grasping this
freedom because the “trust” we experience with each other in this life often comes
up short of expectations. Or maybe it’s because we are simply weak individuals,
susceptible to doubt and skepticism. But rest assured, when God says he is
going to provide, you can bet the bank that he will come through…every single
time. Now his response may not align with what we “wanted”…but make no mistake,
it will be exactly what we need…we were just yet to realize it. May we embrace the
freedom that comes with trusting the Lord, may we set aside our old ways of
worry and fear, and may we follow the perfect path that the Lord’s puts before
us…knowing without a doubt, that He will provide all that is needed. To God
alone be the glory!
