Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working
for the Lord, not for human masters
This is a great verse to keep in our minds whether we are at
work, at home, in our churches, at our schools, or even shopping at the grocery
store. It’s great because it essentially says that whatever it is that we may
be doing, we should do that task as if we were doing it directly for God. So if
we are at work completing a project, we should complete that project with enthusiasm,
integrity, and a positive attitude, as if God were sitting in our office
waiting for the completed product. If we are at home, we are to prepare meals,
clean bathrooms, wash and fold laundry, and mow the yard as if the occupant of
the home was God himself. If out driving around or shopping at stores, we are
to interact with others as if we were interacting with the Lord…with kindness,
forgiveness, and grace. Bottom line, whatever it is that we are doing, our goal
should be to do it all for the Lord. After all, we have been placed in this
life to serve the Lord…our #1 role in this life is to serve God…period. So when
we go about our days with honesty, genuine kindness, integrity, and true
forgiveness, we are serving the Lord. When we go about our days in anger,
resentment, and selfishness, breeding conflict and strife, we are not serving the
Lord…we are serving sin, the devil, darkness. It’s clear which path is better
and it’s clear which path will lead us to a happier life. While it’s obviously no
easy task living like this, we will find that when we genuinely invite the Holy
Spirit into our lives, welcoming the guidance and direction, we will find that
it is certainly achievable. There is no limit to what we can do when we let God
take the lead. To God alone be the glory!
