Daily Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There are two great confirmations in the text above: 1) Scripture is not something cooked up by man. It’s from the very breath of God. And…2) We are to be knee deep in Scripture so that we are well prepared to do good works. It would be completely disheartening if we discovered that all the text in the Bible was somehow put together solely out of the minds of a few guys that were “creating” this new religion. Thankfully it is not. Rather it comes directly from God. Sure, man actually wrote it out on paper, but it was that actual living God that inspired and breathed life into this text. These are not good ideas or suggested commands outlined by a bunch of clever guys…nor are the stories in the text meant simply as entertainment to pass the time. It is all from the hand of God with the intended purpose of instructing us how to live, showing us that we are loved, and relaying the lifesaving message of the Gospel of Jesus! This book is not something that should be collecting dust on the shelf as a nice addition to our book collections. Rather it is intended to be used so often that dust doesn’t even have a chance to accumulate on its pages. We are to be in God’s Word daily, soaking in the instruction and teachings so that when it comes to being the hands and feet of the Lord…when it comes to speaking and acting on behalf of the Lord…we will know what should be done. But we don’t go about the good works on our own. Thankfully God interjects the Holy Spirit to lead our hands and feet…he puts the Holy Spirit into play so that we know what to say and how to act. What an incredibly loving and providing God that we have! Not only did he leave this extensive, “User’s Manual” with us on how we should be living, but he takes it a step further and accompanies us in the journey! May we daily make time to read the Scriptures, viewing it as the true God-breathed message, and allowing it to direct our lives. To God be the glory!
