Join with me in
suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
I think that God gets into the middle of the challenges and
battles in our lives to shape us into the person that He wants us to be.
Whether it be a financial, health, or a relationship battle, I think that God
uses those opportunities to make us better instruments for his purpose. I think
there are times when God creates the challenge for us and then there are times
when are own befuddled ways lead us into a tangle that we probably could have
avoided. Whether God placed or man-made, I think at times we all get to a point
where we want to throw up our hands and say “ENOUGH!…I’ve had my fill of this
molding, this shaping, and I simply want some relief!” But then I consider why
God is doing this. Maybe it’s because he wants us to be able to better relate
to another person in need. Maybe it’s because there is a bigger storm on the horizon
that we need to “train” for. Or maybe it’s simply because God wants us to grow
and not become complacent in my life. For some reason, the text above from 2
Timothy motivates me to accept the challenges, grit my teeth, and “soldier” on
through life’s difficulties. If we are fighting for the Lord, then we are
fighting for something eternal, lasting, and worthwhile. I think that when we
reach our final few moments on this earth, what is going to be potent in our
minds is how we lived for the Lord. Did we stand strong in adversity and fight
FOR him cause…or did we fold our tent when things got tough and look for an
alternative and easier path? I pray that when we are called into battle each
day…whether minor or monumental…that we grit our teeth, widen our stance, and
bear down on whatever comes our way, determined to stand firm in the Lord.
To God be the glory!
