Daily Verse: Exodus 7:23

Instead, he (Pharaoh) turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.

In the seventh chapter of Exodus, Moses is trying to convince Pharaoh to allow Israelites to leave their work and go into the desert. In order to prove to Pharaoh that is it indeed the one true God making this request, the Lord performs some incredible acts through Moses and his brother Aaron. In this particular example, Moses, at the command of the Lord, struck the waters of the Nile with his staff and instantly the water was changed into blood. But they didn’t stop with the Nile…no, they reached out to every body of water in the land…as seen in verse 19, “The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt--over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs'--and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars." Just imagine this scene…not only would it be completely jaw-dropping and unbelievable, but it would probably be downright frightening. Ones sense of sight, touch, and smell would all be attacked by the overwhelming presence of blood where water once stood. Yet Pharaoh remained unimpressed and unaffected…largely because his magicians were able to mirror (in some form) the scene with their “secret arts” (verse 22). I wonder if there are times in our own lives where God is making a bold statement and we fail to take notice…or God is trying to get our attention and we walk right on by without noticing. Make no mistake, God is active in each of our lives…whether we are considered highly “significant” in this world or walk the soil relatively unnoticed…the Lord is active in each of our lives. What an incredible privilege we have to keep our eyes and ears open to his “signs” in our lives! Some may come as a faint whisper while others arrive as a mighty river of blood. Whatever the manner, I pray that we not only take the time to hear and see the Lord in our lives, but that we also follow what he calls us to do, think, and speak. To God be the glory!
