God heard the groaning from his people that are under the boot
of Pharaoh and wants to bring them relief. So he is sending Moses to speak to
the Israelites, convincing them to follow him out of Egypt. And much like we do
today, Moses responds with a list of excuses. As seen in the text above, God
eventually gets angry with Moses and his resistance…in fact his anger BURNS
against Moses. God is heated and fired-up. If we freeze right there and don’t
read any further, I can imagine the next scene would be God “back-handing”
Moses, telling him to “Suck it up, it’s go time. No more excuses!” After all,
that’s probably what Moses deserved…especially since God had just given Moses some incredible tools to prove to
the people that God was in the mix (See verses 1:7). But God doesn’t back-hand
him…God doesn’t give him what he deserves for his persistence resistance. In
fact, od shows patience with Moses, and maybe even a glimpse of compassion and
understanding. In verse 10, Moses tells God that he is not the right man for
the job because he is a poor public speaker. Perhaps this was just another
excuse or a real insecurity for Moses. Either way, God reveals his loving side
to Moses in suggesting a way to help Moses in this matter. He suggests that
Aaron, Moses brother, go with Moses because Aaron is a good speaker. This is
incredibly encouraging to see that our Lord leads with love, even when he would
have been completely justified to force Moses into submission with a more direct
and aggressive approach. May we find hope, comfort, and peace from this in our
own lives today, knowing that our God is a loving God. To God be the glory!
