I would imagine that when the Israelites realized that God
felt their pain, the relationship between God and man suddenly became personal
to them. It is interesting how a wall that once stood as a barrier between two
individuals will crumble to dust when one person expresses concern and for the life
of the other. In this example, God instructed Moses and Aaron to tell the
people that God cared…that God was working to get them out of Egypt…and that
God was working to relieve them of the misery that had consumed their daily
lives. When we acknowledge Jesus as our Savior, we are directly experiencing
God’s concern and compassion for our lives…we are directly witnessing His
desire to relieve us of our misery under the boot of sin. Jesus came to this word
as a sacrifice because there was simply no other way for us to get things right
on our own. No matter how hard we try, we cannot be perfect as the Law requires
us to be perfect. And under the Law, we would be destined for a very uncomfortable,
eternal seat in a seriously miserable place. But through Christ, we are relieved
of this destiny…we are rescued, secured, set free! So today, as we pause to acknowledge
God’s concern for our lives, may we bow down and truly worship him…may our
every word, thought, and deed reflect our worship of the one true King. To God
be the glory!
