Doing what is right is seriously tough at times, especially
if we can somehow justify in our minds, or from a worldly viewpoint, that we
are right in our “wrong” position. Recently I encountered a situation where I
could justify being “right”…but when I broke it down to the foundation of the
issue, maintaining my prescribed path of thinking put me squarely in the wrong.
If I viewed it from the lens of this world…where “right” is subjective and selfishness
and sin often triumph over righteousness…I could justify my action, or
inaction. But when I viewed it from the lens of our Lord, I had no ground to
stand on…I was wrong and needed to do what was right…even if the pill I had to
swallow was bitter and uncomfortable. If we are to call ourselves Christians
and profess that every fiber of our being is committed to following Christ,
then we have to do what is right according to Christ…according to the Word of
God that we hold in our hands. We can’t pick and choose when we obey…we can’t
choose to only obey when it aligns with our desires, wants, and comforts…we
can’t cherry-pick our way through God’s Word pulling out the things we like and
conveniently ignoring those that we do not. We must be committed to it all…and
in the end, we will find reward with the Lord. Now we will make mistakes from
time to time…some will be made directly and willingly, while others may be
committed accidently or unknowingly. Thankfully when we are truly repentant and
make an attempt to right the wrong, we have forgiveness through Jesus Christ…and
we don’t stand to face the punishment that we are due. May we work today to
filter out the wrong in our lives and maintain a steadfast commitment to the right…even
when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, and difficult…for there is such great
reward in wholeheartedly serving the Lord! To God be the glory!
