Daily Verse: John 12:26

Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

It is so easy to get comfortable in the “bubbles” that we have created in our lives. These bubbles are the places where we are most comfortable…the places that we have either directly or indirectly “constructed” by how we choose to live each day. Perhaps this bubble is a physical setting, such as our town, neighborhood, or property. The bubbles can even be mobile, impacting how we interact in with others in a public setting. In the bubble, things are relatively predictable, safe, and routine…we have a good idea of what is coming around the corner and how we will react. But what if we stepped outside the bubble? What if we chose to leave our place of comfort and follow Jesus? Reading through the Gospels, it doesn’t seem as if Christ had a “bubble” during this 30+ years on this earth. Rather, he went where there was need. He went out into the less-desirable places and interacted with the less-desirable people…because these people were in need. He spoke words of kindness and forgiveness to a promiscuous woman at a well…because she was in need. He broke bread with people that were considered scandalous, dirty, and undesirable…because there were in need. He reached out and touched the lame, broken, and diseased…because they were in need. We have a incredible opportunity to follow Christ with each new day. We could follow him in engaging in something of great magnitude or something or relative simplicity…the important thing is that we follow, and allow his love to work through us, reaching those in need. So today, if we feel the Lord leading us to go and feed the poor, may we follow with eagerness…if today, we feel the Lord giving us the words to help someone that is suffering, may we allow those words to flow from within us…if today, we feel the Lord calling us to break through the bubble and reach out to a stranger in need, may we follow and do his work…no hesitation, no excuses, no regret. What a privilege we have in living our lives to serve the living God! To God be the glory!
