The text above spoken by Jesus puts a very personal touch on
the relationship that we have with him. He knows us…and we know him.
It gives the sense that our relationship with Christ goes beyond being mere
acquaintances or friends. To “know” someone implies that you have invested time
with the person…time discovering the things that make them unique…time spent in
conversation about their hopes and dreams…time spent sharing things that are
important in their days…and time discussing the struggles and difficulties that
cloud their paths. That is what is so incredible about our Lord…he desires to
actually know each one of us personally. He wants to get beyond the ordinary “hello, how are you?...Fine, thanks”
exchange each morning and really discover how we are doing. He wants to know
about our goals and desires…he wants to know about our struggles and
hardships…he wants to hear about the extraordinary days as well as the
relatively mundane ones. If this world gives us nothing but rejection,
negativity, and hatred, we can still stand tall, our chin up, our chest out,
knowing that the One true Lord thinks we are incredibly valuable, fascinating,
and important. If there is anything to smile about today, let it be this right
here: We are important, cherished, and dearly loved by THE Creator, King of
kings, Lord Almighty! To God be the glory!
