Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
Is the text above really reflected in our lives? If someone were to follow us around throughout the day, recording our every move, would they conclude at the end of the day that we are obviously led by God? Or would they conclude that God is absent, or seems to only make occasional appearances into our lives when he is “needed” or it is convenient for us? The interesting part about the text above is that it is not prefaced or followed by any conditions for when God’s Word is to be our guide. It simply states that it “is”…it IS a lamp…it IS a light. One would be safe in assuming then that it means all of the time…it remains our light, it stays as our light. It is not temporary, it does not take days off or have moments when it is not applicable or not appropriate. There is simply not a period of time when God’s Word should NOT be the light for our path in life. Sure, this might make some things in our lives uncomfortable at first or we might “lose out” on potential opportunities in this world…but if there is some “opportunity” that does not align with God’s Word, is it really worth pursuing? If we have to stray onto a path that is NOT lit by God…a path that is sinful and misaligned with God’s commands…should we even be on that path to begin with? Following a direction in life that aligns with our Lord’s plan may not necessarily be easy or comfortable…but we can rest assured that it is certainly what is best for our lives. May we trust the path He has lit before us and faithfully stay the course. To God be the glory!
