He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
It is challenging to grasp the enormity of the gift of forgiveness that comes from our Lord. Here we stand as people knee deep in sin, day after day, we oppose the commands of God, repeating the mistakes from the day before and adopting new ones for the days ahead. God realized this…He realized that man could not defeat sin on his own…and that all of His children…each person that he carefully and lovingly crafted to be in His image, were going to perish. Instead of resting with Him in heaven, we were all destined for our justified spot in hell. After all, God says “don’t sin”…and what do we do? We sin. So Christ entered the world as man and took the punishment that we were due. God took an enormously selfless approach to saving his children. Instead of wiping the slate clean and starting over, He decided to save the lost…He decided to show compassion, understanding, and love. There is simply no greater gift that man can receive than eternal, forever, never-ending, infinite salvation through Christ. May we live our lives selflessly…not because we are trying to earn salvation or get on God’s “good side”…but because we love the Lord…because we feel the incredible love displayed through Christ and we want to emulate that in our own lives. Because we want to give back to the one that has given us everything! Our time in this life is brief…evident in Psalm 103:15:16, “As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.”…may we make the most of this short time and give back to our God that has given us everything. To God be the glory!
