Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young-- a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.
A sparrow is pretty insignificant…just a tiny bird that tends to travel in flocks numbering in the hundreds. It is not too impressive to look at, doesn’t do anything real “earth shattering” during its life, and its eventual passing will go largely unnoticed. Yet in the text above, we see that even this insignificant, unimportant, tiny creature has a place near the Lord. So if something as trivial as a little bird is recognized by the Lord, then how much more are we…we who have been created in the image of God…valued in the eyes of the Lord? We are so deeply cherished that God gave everything for us. He looked down from heaven, saw all the sin we were knee deep in and completely incapable of overcoming, and he gave himself to the cause. He stepped down from his perfect place in heaven and became man…walked among us, taught among us, desperately seeking to turn us from our sinful ways. And then he took it a step further…he took the chains, the crown of thorns, and the nails…eventually dying on a cross. So that each person that he created might NOT be punished for the sins they were committing…so that through repentance, HE could pay the price….HE could take the pain…HE could provide the rescue. So if the world has labeled you as unimportant, insignificant, unskilled, inadequate, ugly, worthless, or useless…may you stand firm today in knowing that nothing could be further from the truth. For you are deeply cherished by the Almighty God, the King of kings, the Savior of the World! That’s real love…the real deal…the real truth! To God be the glory!
