Daily Verse: Psalm 72:12-14

For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.

“Weak” and “Needy” are not descriptions that are readily embraced in our world today. These terms imply that we are lacking, that we are inadequate, that we are incapable of doing something on our own, and that we require the help of another. And in today’s world, the weak and needy are not usually valued or treasured…it is more common to find these types of individuals pushed aside, devalued, and at best tolerated. Yet the text above is saying that God views these weak and needy as “precious”…treasured, priceless, dearly loved. And whether we realize it or not, we ALL fall into the category of “weak” and “needy”…for we are too weak to defeat sin, incapable of paying the ransom for our sin, and in desperate need of a Savior. Thankfully we have a God that still views us as precious, despite all our failures, mistakes, and sins. There is great hope and peace in that today. To God be the glory!
