You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
It seems that sometimes we believe, or at least act like we believe, that we know what is best in our lives…that despite God’s instructions, we still take the wheel and steer the ship in a different direction. We know better…it is OUR life so we know best what we really need. Is it because we are wrapped up in our independence, confident and secure because things have gone well so far? Or is it out of ignorance to God’s Word…we simply have not taken the time to learn and understand His Word? Or is it just simple sin…we understand his commands, we acknowledge our dependence on Him, yet we still side with sin…it’s easier, it’s comfortable, and it’s socially acceptable. But as the text states above, we should not drink of the cup of Christ and the cup of sin…we should not entertain a lifestyle plagued with deliberate sin and claim to be disciplined and dedicated followers of Christ. So where do we reside today in our lives? Are we truly living our lives for Christ…genuinely drinking of the cup of the Lord…or are we entertaining the table of demons, choosing sin over righteousness…choosing our way over the Lord’s way? May we side with the Lord in every moment today…in every thought, every word, every action…may they all be pleasing to the Lord, leaving no reason for the Lord to be jealous for our attention. To God be the glory!
