Daily Verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:8

Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

When the Word of God is preached in its truth, we often view it as the opinion or direction of the pastor, preacher, or ordinary person that is speaking, rather than the divine instruction from the living God. Therefore we find it easy to categorize it as false, too harsh, too restricting, and simply uncomfortable…and we reject it…whether directly or indirectly. But what we fail to realize is that it is not instruction concocted by the individual standing before us, but rather it is the real God-inspired text (assuming it is not distorted by man and is the clear truth of the Word)…it is God’s Word, not man’s. And when we reject it, we are rejecting God. We are telling God that we disagree with the plans he has for our lives, that we think his rules are too restricting and don’t fit into our desired path in life. We stand convinced that we are so wise, yet we stand completely foolish. Make no mistake, God’s instructions are relevant, applicable, and beneficial for our lives today…it is not some old text meant for historical times only.  It may require us to change some of our ways, do a little renovating in our lives, but it will all be worth it in the end. Applying perfect wisdom in our lives can only lead to a positive impact to our days ahead. May we seek to embrace God’s Word in our lives, allowing his truth to align our thoughts, words, and actions with his will. To God be the glory!
