Daily Verse: Matthew 12:48-50

He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Family can be defined in many different ways. It could be as tight as our spouse and children or as vast as a group of friends. Bottom line, family is our inner circle…the ones we will bleed to defend, work hard to please, and embrace with love. We allow family access to our daily lives…they are trusted, valued, and desired. They are the ones that we want to spend time with…the ones that we go to for support…and the ones that we pick up when down. To be included in “family” is a privileged position…we yearn to be included in a family with others. In the text above Christ makes an incredible revelation. He states that those who actually do the will of God will be considered part of his family. Wow! Is there any more desired family to be a part of? Is there any family that has more of an unbelievably incredible upside as Christ’s family? As a member of Christ’s family, we have access to THE Creator of ALL things…we have access to salvation, rescue, and an eternal spot in heaven! Jesus is the “bridge” to God…he bridges the gap that sin created. In Matthew 11:27, “no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal to him”, we see clearly where Christ decides who gets to the Father. By faith in Christ, we receive salvation…we walk the bridge…we are connected with God. But if we are not living according to the will of God, do we really have true faith in Christ? We might be able to fool each other, but God knows where we stand (Psalm 139:1-6)…he knows if we are pretending or if we are sold out, all-in, fully committed.  May we leave no doubt where we stand. May we allow our faith to shine brightly in our lives, striving tirelessly to do the will of the Father. So that we may be included in that privileged family…so that our faith in Christ may be deemed real, genuine, authentic. To God be the glory!
