Daily Verse: Mark 1:30-31

Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

When we get sick, we usually first turn to the medicine cabinet…then if that doesn’t solve the issue, we turn to a doctor for professional help…and if the condition is serious enough, we are referred to more specialized doctors to find a solution. Bottom line, we take action…we seek out a way to eliminate the illness that has taken our body hostage. We are a people of action...we like to “Do” when the opportunity presents itself…we don’t like to sit idle. But when we are in need, where does the Lord fit into our action plan? Do we go to him in prayer, at the first sight of a need, requesting his touch on our lives? Do we wait until we are further along in the process, perhaps when conventional, man-made ways have failed? Or do we only go to him in serious cases, when we feel like our situation warrants the attention of such a busy God? In the text above, Simon had a need…his mother in law was sick…so he immediately petitioned the Lord for healing…and low and behold, the Lord did that very thing…he healed her, right there on the spot. Whatever our need is in our lives…whether large or small…we can and should turn to the Lord…right from the very start. He cares deeply for each of us…even if it’s a simple fever…he cares and wants us to reach out to him…every time. What a privilege we have to connect with the very Creator of it all…the God of gods…the King of kings…the Great Physician. May we embrace this opportunity each and every day…trusting in true faith (as Simon displayed) that he will and can provide all that we need. To God be the glory!
