Daily Verse: 2 Thessalonians 1:7

…and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.

Adversity is something that we all encounter…some get a much larger share during their lives than others…and some even face it from their first blink to their final breath, constantly trudging up hill, just trying to make another day. There are hundreds of references in the Bible that talk about God rescuing those in need…bringing relief, rescue, and healing to the sick, the blind, and the possessed. Yet there are some people that live their entire lives in poverty, suffering, and hardship…and someone might argue that these people have somehow gone unnoticed by God. After all, the rescue and healing that was so desperately needed never came…they battled trouble from the beginning to the end. This leaves me scratching my head…asking what gives? Then I stumbled upon the text above in 2 Thessalonians. God promises rescue…for some that comes during their lives in the form of healing, financial blessings, or divine direction…for others, it does not come until the end, when their lives come to a close and they are ushered into heaven…to a place where there is no pain, no conflict, no adversity. God operates in his own time and in his own way…some receiving relief in this life, others after this life. His goal is pure, his timing is perfect, and the result is spot on. May we maintain a secure faith today…even when staring down the barrel of adversity…trusting that while rescue may not come today, it will be overflowing in the end to those that put their faith in the Son. To God be the glory!
