Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible
Wow…in the text above, Paul is stating that he is willing to do whatever it takes to bring as many people to the Gospel as possible…even to the point of enslaving himself to those that need the Gospel. In our world today, we are called to share the Gospel…in fact, if Christians stopped sharing the Gospel, one might surmise that the Christianity could come to an end…or be reduced to a soft whisper…especially considering everything that pulls against the Word. Thankfully, for most of us, we don’t have to enter slavery in order to spread the message of Christ. We may have to get a bit uncomfortable, step out of our normal routine, or take a risk…but when compared to the alternative…compared to another person spending eternity in misery…our discomfort seems downright trivial. We cannot be discouraged by the uncertainty or discomfort that MIGHT come from sharing the Word…especially since we are working for the Lord, and when the Lord is involved, great things can happen…unexplainable things can happen. We might predict that the experience will go sour, only to find that it takes a completely opposite positive path as God puts his hand in the mix and makes things happen. Whether positive or negative…whether comfortable or uncomfortable…whether peaceful or hostile…our efforts to spread the message of Christ…through our actions and words…are certainly worthwhile. So today, may we look for the opportunities the Lord provides, trust the direction he sends us, and courageously seek to share his name. To God be the glory!
