When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever
This verse seems to key on the fact that no matter what awful
mess life throws at us, when we keep our faith in Christ, we will remain solid
in our standing with the Lord. If our faith remains steadfast, nothing can
sweep us away from God’s love and the promise of eternal salvation. But it is
only through faith in what Jesus did on our behalf…true faith in Christ as the
one Savior to us all…that we are able to stand unbreakable. We stand firm
forever only because of Christ…and we are seen as righteous only because of
Christ. Apart from Christ, we are rightfully seen as wicked, sinful and
unworthy and we are easily crushed by the sin that weighs on our shoulders. Apart
from Christ, the future is terribly dark, depressing, and arguably too
difficult to bare. But through belief in Christ, we receive unjustified grace
as the crushing weight and promised eternal punishment of sin is removed from
our head…the darkness is lifted and replaced by light. In this life we can
become dirt poor, riddled with disease and disability, shunned by society,
pushed aside as worthless and unnecessary, and completely ignored by all…and we
will STILL be seen as righteous, valuable, and completely worthy before the
Lord. There simply is no greater gift we possess than the faith that has been
planted in us through the Holy Spirit. Hands down, no contest! Take time today
to give God thanks for the gift of Jesus…real, deep, genuine thanks…for without
the merciful and unjustified gift of Christ, we stand empty handed. To God
alone be the glory!
