Romans 14:10-12

Romans 14:10-12

For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.  It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

It can be difficult to grasp the all-encompassing nature and presence of God. It’s hard to understand and visualize God being God over every single person that walks this earth. It’s easier to live in our relatively small “bubbles” of local communities and local churches and see God as Ruler to our select group of people. But in reality, God holds dominion over every person across this massive globe. The text above from Romans helps capture that realization. Every single person that is living today will someday die…and when they die, every single person will bow before our God and acknowledge our God as THE God. Think about that for a second…a person that lives in Seattle will have to bow before the same God as a person that lives 7,000 miles away in Egypt. Whether they know our God today or have no concept of him at all, the day will come when they will stand before him, professing him as God. And when every person stands before God, he will call them to give an account of how they lived their lives. And no matter where we call home today, no matter what our profession is or how much money is in our pockets, if we stand ALONE before God, we will all be doomed. For we have all lived a sinful life…we have all failed to keeps God’s commands completely…and we have all fallen woefully short of fulfilling the intended design that God has for us. But thankfully, our loving God provided a way out of the darkness for us . Through faith in Christ, we won’t stand alone before God. Through acknowledgement of Christ as Savior, we stand before God with Jesus, the only man to perfectly fulfill God’s commands in this life. And when God calls us to give account for our failures, Jesus steps in can calls us his own. O happy day! May we give thanks to God today for the sacrifice he made on her behalf, may we live a life that shouts the Gospel, and may we never pass up an opportunity to speak God’s good news to those around us. To God alone be the glory!
