Romans 5:6

Romans 5:6

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

When we face sin alone, we are powerless. Sin has just far too deep and strong of a grip on our lives. Sin is a wicked liar and deceiver…it tricks us into thinking that we need it, that we enjoy it, and that it’s right for our lives. But after sin has done its dirty work, it leaves us in a broken pile of misery, worse off than when we started. And sin never becomes a stranger…in fact, it returns daily, looking for ways to wreak havoc in our lives and leave us chopped at the knees by days end. Sin is a disease…it doesn’t care about the person that it has infected and it does everything it can to create as much chaos as possible in a person’s life. There is only one person that has ever walked this world, faced the temptations we face, and fully and completely defeated every sin that came his way. Christ and Christ alone. When Christ rose from the dead, he essentially kicked the devil right in the mouth. He defeated sin and defeated the impending death that plagues a sinner. And it is only through our genuine belief that Christ defeated sin and death on OUR behalf that we can partake in the victory that Christ secured. It is only through our professed belief that Christ is THE Savior to the world that we can stand before God and NOT be sentenced to an eternity in hell. There is simply no other way…we are to weak and completely incapable of defeating sin on our own. This life we live on this earth is a gift, but because this world is broken and plagued with sin, this life is not easy. We are going to have many more days to come where sin is going to do everything it can to wreck our lives and tear us away from the Lord. Thankfully, because Christ restored our relationship with God, we don’t have to continue the battle on our own. When sin enters the picture, we can tap into the power of Christ through the Holy Spirit. We can pray to God for strength, confidence, and a way out from underneath the suffocating burden of sin…and we can trust that God will provide the rescue that we need. No question about it! May we seek the Lord’s strength and wisdom in ridding our days of sin and temptation…and may we raise our hands and voices in praise to the Lord that when this life comes to a close, we will be rescued from sin once and for all! To God alone be the glory!
