Or do you show
contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not
realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
Repentance is key. We must own our mistakes, admit our
guilt, realize we require change, and acknowledge that if we try and fix it on
our own, we will simply continue to fail. God show us kindness and love because
he wants to draw us to repentance. He wants to draw each and every one of us to
realize that he sent Christ to this world as the sacrifice for all that we have
done to violate his commands. He is giving us a chance to come clean and be
made clean. All we have to do is go to him with a genuinely repentant heart and
seek his mercy…and deeply acknowledge that without Christ, we have no chance at
making things right. Repentance requires us to humble ourselves and make change
in our lives. Repentance is not coming forward and delivering a quick, half-hearted
“sorrow” then returning to our same foolish ways. Make no mistake, God can’t be
fooled. God sees it all…our thoughts, words, and actions…all are laid bare
before the Lord each day. And yes, sin can be enticing. Sin can feel right and justified
at the time, but when the “battle moment” has subsided, we will see that we are
completely in the wrong. We will see that our sin has placed us as an enemy to
God. The only way to be reconciled with God is to repent…and the only way that
repentance is possible is through Christ. May we seek the Lord’s forgiveness
each day, allowing the Lord to draw us to true repentance, and give thanks that
we can start over, that we can be made clean, and that we are once again made right
with the Lord. To God alone be the glory!
