Colossians 2:8

Colossians 2:8

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ

We have a lot of options on what path to follow in this life. There are an infinite number of opinions and ideas that we can follow…many of which are crafted to appear logical and make great “worldly” sense. But when lined up next to God’s Word, they stand in direct opposition…they fall woefully short of measuring up to God’s standards. Yet, they are embraced by many because they appear to make sense, they are reasonable, and for a moment, they make us feel “good”. But in the end, they are wrong. There is only one righteous path…and that’s the path that Christ walked…a path that showed us what a perfect life looks like. As followers of Christ, we are to measure everything in our lives according to what it specifically says in God’s Word. And if we find that what we are doing doesn’t align with God’s Word, then we need to get away from it…we need to stop doing it, thinking it, and saying it. And yes, that might mean we have to be uncomfortable for a while. We might actually have to sacrifice a bit…we might actually have to rid our lives of a bucket of stuff that we once viewed as “great” and “enjoyable”. We might have to stand in a less popular position…we might receive some ridicule and opposition…we might even become disliked and undesirable. But it’s worth it…hands down, no question about it…it’s most definitely worth it! For we will be standing in righteousness with the Lord at our side. And we can’t fool God with anything, specifically our spirituality. He knows our thoughts (Psalm 139:2), he’s privy to our every word, and witnesses our every action. And if we aren’t walking the walk, he knows about it. If there is anyone in this life that we should be deeply dedicated to pleasing, it’s God. Through him, we have been given EVERYTHING that is good in our lives…and by his grace, we have a gift that we are completely unable to attain on our own (and one that we all require)…the gift of salvation. May we live our days as Christ lived, rooted in God’s every command, committed to the will of the Father…no hesitation, no regret, no question. To God alone be the glory!
