Daily VerseL Psalm 56:3-4

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

When life gets rough, open the Book of Psalms and read the verse above. When things start to get uncertain, worries start to rise, and darkness seems to be rolling in like a slow fog, read the words above. What are we to fear when we have God standing on the frontlines with us, defending us against whatever life wants to sling our way? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sure, life can get rough at times…we can lose jobs, suffer mental and physical pain, endure broken relationships, experience worry, anxiety, and stress. But those bumps in the road are just that…temporary bumps along the road. They won’t last.  And at the end of that road, for those that call Christ their saving grace, there is perfection. Perfect rest, perfect peace, perfect satisfaction and perfect joy. Beyond even the greatest thing we could ever imagine…there it waits for us, a promise sealed through the sacrificial blood of one perfect Man. But God doesn’t just wait at the finish line, fingers crossed, hoping that we make it to him.  No, he walks every single step along the road with us. The highs and lows, cuts and bruises, rain or shine…He is there. Through Christ, God walked this very earth…and he understands what it feels like to be stressed, anxious, worried, exhausted, and troubled (just see Matthew 26:36-46). He gets it. He feels it. He knows it. He also knows what it takes to endure and rise to victory in the end…and he allows us to tap into that great strength, discipline, and power by linking us to the one true God in our prayers. So today, may we not fear or worry, for we have God at our side…and with God at our side, darkness doesn’t stand a chance! To God be the glory!
