Daily Verse: 2 Peter 3:8-9

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

We are growing into a more impatient society by the day. Blame the internet, the smartphones, or whatever device we use that we expect an immediate response from. But when it comes to the truly important things in our lives…the things that consume our thoughts and our energy…the things that we pray about. Those things are on God’s time. And as we see in the text above, God’s time is not always in-line with our time. We may have to carry a burden for years before we get an answer…we may have to endure a struggle for much longer than we would like. But that is just how it is. It does not mean that God has not heard our prayer. It doesn’t mean that we are not important enough in the eyes of the Lord to garner a response. It doesn’t mean that our challenge is not that big of a deal and we need to just suck it up and get over it. It simply means that God has a different time in mind. It means that we must be patient and wait for His response. God doesn’t make mistakes…he doesn’t forget, lose track of time, or get too busy. We must not lose the hope that we have found through Christ…the hope that is rooted in being claimed as one of God’s chosen children. We must continue to pray to the Lord, expressing our need, and trusting that he walks beside us while we are waiting. And even if we have to endure from today until our final breath, that’s ok. For in the end, we will find true relief…in the end we will receive that promised reward that is going absolutely knock our socks off. May we find hope, peace, and joy in knowing, without a doubt, that our God is alive, our God is real, and that our God knows exactly when to provide exactly what we need. To God be the glory!
