Daily Verse: Mark 6:50

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”

Jesus spoke these words to the disciples as he walked on the water near the boat that the disciples were floating in. When the disciples saw a man walking on the water, not necessarily knowing that is was Jesus, they were terrified and started crying out in fear. Once Jesus spoke these words to them, they were no longer afraid…they recognized the Savior and knew that they were now in good hands. I think Jesus speaks these words to us daily as we encounter different challenges, hardships, and frightening experiences. We call out in fear and He reassures us that he is by our side…that we are not to be afraid…that we are to be courageous and trust that he is going to provide the strength, protection, and security that we need. Unfortunately we don’t have the luxury of necessarily directly hearing his voice and seeing him walking before us, but that does not lessen the impact he can have on our lives. It’s an incredible gift that we can call out in fear and the Lord comes to our aid…that he gives us personal and direct attention, to calm our hearts, steady our shaking hands, and fortify our walls against invasion. No matter what “ugly” the world brings to our doorstep…be it disease, addiction, loss of income, crumbling relationships, insecurity…we can stand absolutely confident and secure in knowing that the Lord is right by our side! That’s an incredible reason for hope, peace, and joy! To God be the glory!
