Daily Verse: Luke 21:13

“This will result in your being witnesses to them.”

In Luke 21:12 Jesus explains to the disciples that a time will come when they will be persecuted, abused, and imprisoned because of the faith that they have in Him. That’s pretty grim news that the disciples must swallow…proclaiming their faith in Christ is going to lead to a very challenging and difficult road ahead. But in verse 13, the silver lining appears…there is a positive in the situation. For when they are being abused, restrained, and mistreated because of their faith, they have a platform to tell the world about their faith…to tell the world about Jesus!  Even when we are in the darkest of times, we can still bring glory to the Lord…we can still find an incredible positive in what seems like overwhelming negativity. But Jesus doesn’t just leave them on their own to endure the road ahead…he goes a bit further, becoming a part of the road ahead in verses 14-15, “But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” God not only blesses us in times of adversity, but he also stands there with us during the struggle, guiding our words, guiding our hands, leading our steps. May we rejoice today in times of adversity, seeking opportunities to share the Gospel with others, and remaining confident that the Lord is there with us! To God be the glory!
