Daily Verse: Luke 14:33

In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

 

Our top priority in this life is to serve the God that created us. If there is anything that gets in the way of this mission, we are to push it aside. If there is anything that stands between us and Jesus Christ, we are called to remove that obstacle, and pursue the Savior. And we see that this is serious business that at times can come at a very high cost…just see the words spoken by Jesus in Luke 14:26…”If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple.” That’s some pretty tough words to swallow…yet it accurately conveys how absolutely crucial it is that we wholeheartedly follow the Savior…that we put nothing between us and the Lord…that we let nothing cause us to stop following the Lord. If our job is causing us to walk apart from the Lord, then we need to find a new job…if our form of entertainment is causing us to be separate from the Lord, then we need to ditch it…if our friendships and relationships are causing us to live a life that contradicts God’s commands, then we need to find a new way to live away from the distractions. It most certainly will not be easy…heck, at times it might seem downright gut wrenching…but it will without a doubt be completely worthwhile…both now and in the end, when we are a part of the elect that are called to be with the Lord in heaven. My prayer today is that we allow nothing to stand between us and the Savior…that we let nothing keep is from passionately pursuing him…that we let no obstacle keep us from being disciples that are deeply in love with the One true Savior! To God be the glory!
