Daily Verse: Luke 8:24-25

The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples

In the story above, Jesus and the disciples are on lake when a storm comes up and starts to swamp the boat that they are in. Jesus is asleep in the boat as the disciples start to panic, fearing that they will soon drown if the storm does not subside. So they wake him up, urging him to do something to save them. Here the disciples are in this boat WITH God, and yet they still fear that the boat is going to capsize and they are all going to die. From our perspective on dry land, we could shake our heads at the silly disciples. After all, it’s not logical that they were going to capsize and die with this incredibly important Man on board. It’s like watching the early minutes of a suspenseful movie, knowing that there is no way the main character could die this early in the film. But we get the same way in our own lives…when the waters start to get choppy and things appear uncertain, we start to worry and panic much like the disciples did…even though we know that God is right there with us in the boat. Maybe if we could see him standing at our side…maybe if we could have some kind of physical proof that he was going to carry us through the storm. Would we still worry, doubt, and fret over what is occurring right in front of us? Unfortunately the likely answer is “yes” as we would probably be a lot like the panicked disciples in the boat. Thankfully, the Lord does not condemn us for our weak faith and worry…he does not scold us for our foolish anxiety, and cast us aside as useless weaklings. Rather he delivers us…we may still have to ride out the storm on that shaky boat, but we will get through it one way or another. And the Lord will be at our side, leading the way the whole time. All we have to do is TRUST him…trust that we will not drown, trust that the Lord is by our side and will not let us be lost to life’s rough waters! To God be the glory!
