The verse above is something that we should have close at
hand each day. For it is far too easy to point out the transgressions of
another and forget that we too have our own list of mistakes. As followers of
Christ, we are to mirror the ways of Christ…we are to forgive as we are
forgiven and love as we are loved. We should not judge one another for we have
no right to the seat of judgment…that seat belongs to God alone…the only one
worthy of placing any form of judgment. But surely our sins are not as “bad” as
another’s, right? James 2:10 makes it pretty clear that there is no degree of
sin…a sinner is a sinner and sin is sin…”For
whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of
breaking all of it”. The Christian
faith is a faith of healing, redemption, and restoration. When we come to
Christ in true repentance, we find true renewal through him. He doesn’t stand
before us, shaking a disapproving finger, rubbing our faces in the piles of mistakes
that we have accumulated. Rather he extends love and understanding, embraces
the sinner and casts aside the sin. May we do the same in our own lives...embracing
the sinner…embracing the person, the son, the daughter, the brother, the sister…and
stand as a means of support as they cast aside the worthless sins that we all
struggle with. To God be the glory!
