Daily Verse: Deuteronomy 8:17-18

You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”  But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

This verse is a wonderful reminder to us that the blessings in our lives come from the hand of God. It is easy in our world today to get wrapped up in “self”, thinking that everything that is gained is by the work, talents, and abilities of our own two hands. We fail to acknowledge that every good thing in our lives can be traced back to our all-providing God. If we have achieved great success in our careers, it is because God blessed us with a good work ethic, intelligence, and the ability and opportunity to work. If we have raised a beautiful family, it is because God blessed us with life, wisdom, and direction to lead our children. If we have achieved great athletic feats, it is because the Father blessed us with the talents, drive, and ability to rise to the top. There is great comfort and security in knowing that every good thing in our lives comes from the hand of God, for it shows that God is intimately involved in our lives…that he cares enough to give specific attention to each of our lives. So today, may we take time to pause and count the many blessings in our lives, and then turn our hearts and minds heavenward, giving thanks and praise to the One that has provided it all! To God be the glory!
