Daily Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:53

For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality..

The second half of chapter 15 in 1 Corinthians provides a lot of insights into our transition from earth to heaven, particularly what happens to our bodies. It describes our earthly bodies as perishable…consumable, unpreserved, soon to expire…and specifically calls out a difference between our earthly bodies and our heavenly bodies. The heavenly bodies are described as imperishable…everlasting, immortal, no expiration. The text above highlights the key to transitioning from the perishable to the imperishable…the link to trading this old, tired body for a fresh, renewed body…and most importantly, a body that has a place in the Kingdom with God. The link is not something that we can purchase, not something found in multiple directions, and not something with multiple substitutes.  There is only ONE way to transition from the perishable to the imperishable…only ONE way to move from the struggle on earth to complete peace in heaven…only ONE way to ensure we are headed “North” and not “South”. That one way is Christ…true, genuine, deep, committed faith in the ONE Savior…the only ONE to destroy sin and death. Are we clothed in the imperishable today? Are we the real deal or just pretenders? The unsettling thing about this life is that we have no idea when it will come to a close for each of us…could be 40 years from now or could be in the next minute. If there is any doubt today, may we take time to call out to the Lord and confirm our faith in him…ensuring that it is rock solid. So that when it all comes to a close, we can stand confident in the Savior, shouting the words from 1 Corinthians 15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" See you in heaven one day! To God be the glory!
