Daily Verse: Psalm 23:5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

When we are in the presence of our enemies, the threat of some form of attack is real. We are at risk of being attacked, whether verbally or physically, and we either adopt a fight or flight mentality. We either resist or we get out of town. What is profound about the text above is the fact that God prepares a table for us in the very presence of our enemies…a place for us to pause, rest, and even relax. The idea of sitting down at a table, essentially dropping our guard,  while our enemies are in the room is probably the last thing we would think to do. We either want to arm our defenses or find the nearest exit. But sitting at this table is exactly what we are to do…we are to trust our God, even when it seems completely illogical. The text above  is God’s way of saying I am with you, I am in your corner, I am going to provide…so sit and trust me. We face all kinds of adversity every day…some are direct and right in our face, while others are more subtle and catch us off guard. But whatever enemy stands before us, the text above confirms that we do not stand alone…and that we do not need to fear the enemy. We may very well lose life and limb here on this earth, but we will most certainly NOT lose life in heaven with the Lord…a life that far outweighs the life we live now. May we take a step into each day, trusting that the Lord is with us, trusting that he will provide, and standing completely convinced that down the road, we will be with him in heaven! To God be the glory!
