Daily Verse: Romans 6:10-11

The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

If we profess faith in Christ and are undoubtedly committed to the belief that salvation comes through Christ alone, then our lives our not our own. Rather our lives were purchased by Christ when he hung and died from that undeserving cross. Through sin…both past and present…we stand completely guilty and undeniably deserving of just punishment. Due the crime, pay the time. But what if the time is eternal condemnation…residing in an eternal prison overflowing with pain, anguish, and darkness. Eternal means forever…no end…no parole. Who is willing to pay that price? Are we willing to live our lives against the grain of popular culture and become fully committed to live for the Lord? Are we willing to stand against the prevailing wind, denying what society tells us is appropriate or right, and hold fast to God and God alone? That means embracing ALL of his Word and not cherry-picking those things that fit into our chosen path in life. We can’t institute A, B, and C while leaving out X, Y, and Z…we have to be committed to everything. Through Baptism, we died with Christ…we died to the sin in our lives (Romans 6:4-5). And through his resurrection, we live through Christ (Romans 6:8)…and as Christ lives to God, we must also live to God. Committing every single day to serve him…not ourselves or this world…but to him alone. A tall order? Certainly. Worth the effort? No doubt about it. God knows we are going to slip up…he understands that we are hopeless without his Son…but he also understands if we are truly committed and faithful or just putting on a good front. May we take the opportunity today to reaffirm our commitment to the Lord in every aspect of our lives, standing firmly rooted in ALL of his commands. To God be the glory!
