Daily Verse: John 1:6-8

There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

There are some people that seem to really live the Gospel. I can think of a few individuals that each time I interact with them, it’s like their faith is a Slurpee cup and they got a bit overzealous with the self-serve controls…they are simply overflowing with God’s light. It’s not a “suit” they put on once a week, a “hat” that they slap on when in particular company, or a “face” they paint on when convenient. It’s an everyday, all the time thing…it’s the genuine article. So what gives? What’s the secret? Are these people uniquely gifted by God or did they make a conscious decision to live this way? The answer: Yes. There are perhaps some people that are simply gifted with this way of life…God has chosen them to easily shine his light, and boy does it shine. And then there are people that have decided to make a conscious commitment to shine the light. Whether they are a pastor or an accountant…a teacher or a ditch digger…they have chosen to make each and every day all about serving the Lord. And when a day is spent completely serving the Lord, it is time well spent…even if the day was incredibly uneventful and boring in worldly standards. Sound ridiculous or unrealistic? It’s not, stick with me here. We all interact with at least one other person each day…family at home, people in the store, other commuters racing to get from A to B, friends on social networks…and in these interactions, we have the opportunity to structure our words and actions in a way that reflects God’s light. Embracing kindness, practicing selflessness, displaying humility, and acting in love…we can spread the Gospel even without quoting any scripture or “thumping” any Bible. Others will take note of our “unusual” behavior and become curious…or they will see the kind act and inspect their own behavior. Whatever the outcome, a day spent serving the Lord is a day well spent. May we all work to get that Slurpee cup overflowing, so that when the Lord looks our way, there is no doubt that his light is shining through us! To God be the glory!
