Daily Verse: Proverbs 14:30

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

One of the most elusive states in our lives in that of being content. Content is defined as “satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else”. Imagine what that might feel like…a state of being completely satisfied with what we have achieved, what material items or wealth we have accumulated, and what status in society that we hold. We wouldn’t feel the nagging tug of climbing the corporate ladder, moving into a bigger home, or driving a nicer car. We would be at peace. Wouldn’t that be something…especially in a culture where advertisements are like never ending waves of want and desire…where we are told that we deserve something better, that we should always be pushing for that next step upward, and that what we have now is just not cutting it. And if we are not pushing for that next great thing, then we are lazy, unmotivated, distracted. But what if we stopped for a moment…reflecting on where we are and what we have…we pause, we rest, and we redirect. Instead of directing our drive towards wealth, status, and power, what if we refocused our efforts and burned feverishly for contentment. What we have in our lives is what God has provided…what God has decided that we NEED to survive, to be happy. Some have more, others have less…but we have exactly what we need. For when we focus less on worldly things, we tend to focus more on our God and his desires, wants, and needs for our lives. No doubt in my mind, we will be amazed at the results we will find when we make serving the Lord our top priority. To God be the glory!
